Cemix' Envirocrete awarded again
Envirocrete, a bagged concrete using 50% recycled materials from construction and demolition waste, was awarded again, this time by the Cement and Concrete Association of New Zealand (CCANZ).
Announced in Rotorua at the CCANZ conference on Wednesday 10 August, the Concrete³ Sustainability Awards, part of the Concrete³ initiative launched in 2007 by the Cement and Concrete Association of New Zealand (CCANZ), acknowledge projects, products and initiatives which demonstrate excellence in environmental, economic and/or social sustainability for the built environment.
Cemix was awarded a merit in the concrete innovation category for Envirocrete.
Presented annually, the awards provide architects, designers, engineers and/or industry with the opportunity to submit a concrete based product, project or initiative, substantially completed within the past three years, that demonstrates sustainability in either the production or use of concrete. Entries were judged by a panel of New Zealand and international industry experts, using an environmental, economic and social sustainability set of criteria.
Cemix’s humble bagged concrete is mixing in lofty circles, with previous winners including the Northern Gateway Toll Road and materials for the Tauranga Harbour Link project.
Envirocrete was recently a finalist in the Ministry for the Environment’s Green Ribbon Awards.
