Mill Creek Environment Court Consent a Positive Step for Wind Industry
The New Zealand Wind Energy Association has welcomed the Environment Court’s decision to uphold resource consent for the proposed Mill Creek wind farm near Wellington. “We welcome the decision as another positive step forward for the wind industry in New Zealand,” says Eric Pyle, CEO.
The Environment Court has approved the Meridian Energy project, subject to removing five turbines due to adverse visual effects on nearby rural lifestyle properties.
“The Court’s adoption of the NZS:6808 wind farm noise standard is encouraging,” comments Eric Pyle. “This validates the hard work the industry has put in to help develop this standard.”
It was also pleasing to see the Court decision focus on the environmental effects of the wind farm, he said. The Court strongly supported the view that debates about economic viability of a wind farm belong in the board room, not the court room.
