New tool launched to help small businesses
Hospitality Association President Adam Cunningham joined Social Development Minister Paula Bennett, Members of
Parliament and Industry Executives this week to launch Hospro, an online benchmarking tool designed to help small
businesses improve productivity and profitability.
“This project, which has been five years in the making, will provide small businesses with a very accurate reflection of
their performance against industry averages,” says Mr Cunningham
“These results will also suggest where changes can be made, giving business owners a clear idea about how to improve
their businesses productivity.”
Hospro has already been used by 2000 hospitality businesses across the sector. This information will provide an accurate
base line of key indicators and allow new businesses to benchmark their performance against others already in the
database.
Privacy measures ensure that all users information remains strictly confidential. Each new business using Hospro will
add to the data base and ensure it remains relevant as the market and economy grows and fluctuates.
“Hospro is practical, easy to use and available to all hospitality small businesses. It will make a significant
contribution to lifting profitability across the Hospitality sector,” concluded Mr Cunningham.
Social Development Minister Paula Bennett applauded the development of the Hospro in conjunction with the Department of
Labour, Hospitality Standards Institute and members of the Service Industry Training Alliance, urging small New Zealand
businesses to take advantage of its valuable industry information.
“Detailed industry knowledge is like oxygen for small businesses and this new tool will help struggling business owners
to breath new life into their operations,” says Ms Bennett.
“The hospitality industry is a big employer and this Government is right behind anything that helps stimulate business
growth which creates jobs for Kiwis,” she said.
