Te Kauhanganui Calls In Independent Advisors
Tania Martin, the Chair of Te Kauhanganui, the decision-making body of Waikato-Tainui Te Kauhanganui Incorporated, announced that she has instructed public law experts Chen Palmer New Zealand Public and Employment Law Specialists to review the vote on Tukoroirangi Morgan’s disqualification at the General Meeting on 6 August 2011.
“I understand that Te Arataura has instructed Waikato-Tainui Te Kauhanganui Incorporated’s current solicitors, Chapman Tripp, to review the General Meeting. However, Te Kauhanganui wishes to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest, and have therefore instructed Chen Palmer, a firm with expertise which has not previously advised Waikato-Tainui Te Kauhanganui Incorporated.”
Ms Martin said that Chen Palmer were currently reviewing the decision to decide whether it was valid.
“Once we have received Chen Palmer’s advice, Te Kauhanganui will decide on its next steps.”
