Al Brown's eatery Depot opens in Auckland—Saturday 13 August
Al Brown’s new Auckland eatery and oyster bar Depot opens on Saturday 13 August.
Fast paced and fresh, Al Brown says Depot is a place to drop in and refuel. ‘We’ll be serving unpretentious, delicious small plates of food to share, oysters shucked to order, with many of the dishes cooked over charcoal or hard wood.’
Celebrating seasonal New Zealand produce served in a straightforward style, there’ll be a casual atmosphere, yet with great attention to detail. ‘Out the front there’s a raw bar, where oysters and fresh shellfish will be shucked to order. And the main kitchen, which can be seen from the restaurant, features a large charcoal grill and a hard wood oven. Think fresh crab cakes, roasted whole fish and 12-hour slow cooked brisket.’
‘At any time of the day, whether it’s a morning coffee and a beignet on the way to work, or a late evening drink enjoyed with a shared plate of crisp pork hock, there will be plenty going on,’ says Al Brown.
Al Brown is joined by a great team, with head chef Kyle Street, from Logan Brown Restaurant in Wellington and out the front Joe Williams, who last managed Boulcott St Bistro and Warren Ford, who was a manager at one of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants.
Situated at 88 Federal Street, right across from Peter Gordon’s tapas bar Bellota, Depot is part of a SKYCITY initiative to bring more eateries and bars into the area, with The Grill by Sean Connolly and Red Hummingbird by Luke Dallow, both opening within weeks of Depot.
Al Brown also has a new TV show due to screen later this year and his latest book Stoked, which is all about cooking with fire, is due out in October 2011.
