NZCF/Hirepool Construction Awards 2011 winners announced
Projects ranging in value from $675,000 to $116m have been named as winners in the New Zealand Contractors’
Federation/Hirepool Construction Awards 2011.
The awards have four categories, recognising excellence in civil construction projects carried out by New Zealand
companies at home or abroad, with budgets ranging from up to $1m to over $50m.
Category 4, for projects exceeding $50 million was won by the $116m Rosedale Waste Water Treatment Plant and Ocean
Outfall by McConnell Dowell Constructors carried out for North Shore City Council (Watercare)
Category 3, for projects between $10m and $50m was won by the $35.3 Te Uku Wind Farm, near Raglan, carried out as a
joint venture by Hick Bros Civil and Spartan Construction for Meridian Energy.
Category 2, for projects between $1m and $10m went to the $1.2m Upgrade of the Okara Pump Station by United Civil
Construction, Whangarei, for Whangarei District Council
Category 1, for projects with a value less than $1m was won by the $675,000 Happy Valley Road to Owhiro Bay Sewer
Renewal by Construction Contracts Ltd for Wellington City Council.
Federation executive officer Malcolm Abernethy said that all the projects had demonstrated outstanding technical and
environmental planning and often innovative approaches and provided solutions that provided identifiable and long
lasting benefits to the client, public and environment.
Winners were announced on August 5 at the New Zealand Contractors’ Federation and Association of Consulting Engineers
New Zealand’s joint conference in Rotorua.
