Business to business telco Digital Island says that mobile phone services via MVNO is often the best answer for Medium
Enterprise. “The proof is in the size and number of contracts we are securing going up against the big players. These
wins are on the back of Digital Island being the only telco offering Smart Mobiles, along with Ultra Fast Broadband and
IP Voice in a single integrated solution.”
Auckland, New Zealand – 1 August 2011 – Digital Island’s mobile services are gaining ground on the big network operators. “The company first inked a MVNO
(Mobile Virtual Network Operator) contract with Telecom Wholesale to sell Digital Island-branded mobile services just
over two years ago,” General Manager Blair Stewart says.
“In that time we’ve developed and refined mobile offers that are drawing in customers from the big players. We believe
this is due to several key factors. First is that we meet the often complex mobile plan requirements of ME, for example
discounted mobile data services for fleet requirements. And we wrap that with great value plans such as DigiSmart
Grande. This pretty much meets all the possible mobile calling, texting and data needs of the hungriest business person!
“Second, we provide a ‘handheld’ managed approach to mobile service implementations for all customers, ensuring correct
setup, data transfer and staff training is performed.
“Third is integration, packaging, bundles – call it what you will, it’s vital! Digital Island is the only telco in the New Zealand market to offer group calling rates between their IP voice (SIP) and mobile phone services.
We’re geared up now to deliver cost effective UFB to Medium Enterprise. We have proven IP Voice services so ME
businesses can move off the expensive and obsolete PSTN today. However the mass market players generally only have UFB
available to corporate clients at significantly higher cost and none of them have PSTN replacement products for ME.

“And we back the breadth of our offer with a project managed delivery approach to provisioning the more technically
advanced UFB and VoIP (SIP) solutions, ensuring they work for customers. Then we round it out by being an authorised
reseller of the fast growing Google Applications for Business so we can put these messaging integration services on the
same bill.
“While we were confident we could deliver what a mobile market wanted, having achieved very good success rates with our
existing fixed line service customers, we have been very surprised by the number of medium-sized businesses looking for
alternative providers. There is a recognition in the ME market that the MVNO provider can offer improved delivery.
Digital Island’s latest mobile win, Coffey, is a good example. It is more than a 100 handset business,” Mr Stewart said.
“Coffey is a global professional services consultancy focusing on both physical and social infrastructure, including
roads, rail, bridges, marinas and ports, dams, desalination plants, pipelines, near-shore structures such as seawalls,
and underground works such as tunnels. Coffey has offices in the North and South Islands,” Coffey’s Neil Watkins, NZ
Service Line Leader Coffey Geotechnics said.
“Coffey had a requirement for a single, committed, service-orientated vendor that could offer a full fixed-line and
mobile solution. We went to the market for mobile and Digital Island won the deal on the strength of its account
management, handset options and pricing. The integration has gone smoothly, with Digital Island carrying out set up and
training for our staff. Coffey is very pleased with the way the service is up and running,” Mr Watkins said.
