Kiwi design firms banking on success in Australia
New Zealand architecture firm Warren and Mahoney has been appointed by National Australia Bank (NAB) to lead the redesign of its national branch network in Australia. Warren and Mahoney will partner with another Kiwi firm, branding specialists DNA, to design a new look for NAB's 760 stores.
Warren and Mahoney Director John Coop says the win comes on the back of the two firms' recent work for local NAB subsidiary, Bank of New Zealand (BNZ).
"This is a significant assignment for us by any measure, and is testament to the quality and reputation of New Zealand's design industry overseas.
"Warren and Mahoney and DNA together are engaged in a successful rollout of new-generation stores for BNZ, and that certainly played a part in this latest appointment, even though it was a highly competitive pitch," says Coop.
The combined team will be led by Warren and Mahoney Principal and Head of Retail Design, Gareth Huston, who also led the project for BNZ.
"The design brief is encapsulated by NAB's goal of 'being the best retailer in every town'. Together with DNA we're confident we can bring that to life, and transform the in-store banking experience for NAB customers," Huston says.
This latest win adds to Warren and Mahoney's banking sector pedigree. The practice has also been commissioned by ANZ Banking Group, in association with HASSELL, in the redevelopment of its headquarters in Auckland's Albert Street.
