New Zealand Magazines announces appointment of New Idea editor
Louise Wright returns to weekly publishing
New Zealand Magazines, publisher of the country's leading titles, today announced the appointment of Louise Wright to
the position of New Idea editor.
Sarah Sandley, CEO of New Zealand Magazines, said the new editorship was a significant appointment."Louise's appointment
demonstrates we're investing in the best talent in New Zealand to ensure New Idea reaches its full potential as a
leading celebrity and news weekly.
"Louise strikes the balance of senior, strategic support coupled with hands-on experience. She has a clear vision for
the title, excellent contacts, commercial nous and energy to burn."
A highly experienced editor with a proven track record, Louise was formerly editor of Woman's Day on two occasions
(1995-97 and 2001-2003), editor in chief of The Australian Women's Weekly (NZ) , CLEO and SHE & MORE (1998-2001) , and editorial director of mass market titles at ACP Magazines from 2003 to 2008, when she left to
head up the consumer division at PR agency Porter Novelli.
Talking about her appointment, Louise said she was thrilled to be returning to magazines and buoyed by taking up the
editor's seat at New Idea.
"Publishing is my passion, and I love the cut and thrust of the weekly market that's constantly evolving. The
opportunity to lead this magazine was irresistible and I look forward to shaping it in the coming weeks."
Louise starts on Monday August 22. Hayley McLarin, current editor of New Idea, leaves later next month to be
communcations director for charity CureKids.
