New Business Journalism Scholarship

The British High Commission and Air New Zealand are delighted to announce a new Business Journalism scholarship.

The scholarship will see a successful candidate go to London for 10 days to research and write stories for a New Zealand audience. The Financial Times has agreed to mentor the successful applicant and allow them to work in their offices.

The British High Commissioner to New Zealand , Mrs Vicki Treadell says “We think this is a great opportunity for senior New Zealand journalists who are interested in the British economy and its modern links with New Zealand .”

“For our part we see it as part of as part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen links between the UK and New Zealand and we are keen to ensure that the new contemporary Britain is better understood.”

Mrs Treadell said that the “scholarship in August and September also would provide journalists with the unique opportunity to be part of the Financial Time’s operation for a short period .They would gain a unique insight to UK economic and business reporting from our leading broadsheet in this area.”

“Assisting senior business journalists to gain fresh perspectives in a different business market, learn from their counterparts in the UK and bring those lessons home is a great opportunity for those in the profession,” says Mike Tod, Air New Zealand GM Marketing and Communications.

Interested applicants are asked to set out their proposals for a story on the New Zealand-British business relationship . These will be judged by the High Commissioner Mrs Treadell who has a trade development background in Britain and in India .
