Australian wine efforts rewarded with an impressive medal haul at the 2011 Spiegelau International Wine Awards

Gold Medals enjoyed by Penfolds, Wolf Blass, Ingoldby and Wynns

Australian wines are once again demonstrating their superiority in the wine world with a variety of renowned brands scooping Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the inaugural Spiegelau International Wine Competition.

The Spiegelau International Wine Competition was hosted at the Marlborough Convention Centre where over 1,100 wine entries were judged by a panel of twelve wine experts from New Zealand and Australia. In total, 68 Gold, 206 Silver and 429 Bronze medals were awarded, meaning that 64% of all wines entered received an award.

Competition Director, Belinda Jackson was impressed with the high quality and variety of wines which were entered proving that southern hemisphere winemakers are at the top of their game.

“All of the judges were impressed with the quality of wines that were entered particularly style diversity, fruit quality and careful winemaking. There were some real stand out successes”, says Belinda.

Of all Australian wines entered, it was Wolf Blass which enjoyed the stand out success scooping two gold medals, two silvers and two bronzes respectively.

These award successes further cements Wolf Blass as one of Australia’s leading wineries.

Penfolds, Ingoldby and Wynns also scooped Gold medals and enjoyed a fluttering of silver and bronze accolades.
