Interislander Earns Silver Enviro Endorsement
Interislander’s contribution to communities and its efforts towards environmental sustainability has been rewarded, with the Cook Strait ferry operator winning a Silver Enviro endorsement from Qualmark this week.
Interislander general manager Thomas Davis said Interislander had been rewarded for seeking to make a positive contribution to communities and reduce their impact on the environment.
Interislander is a Qualmark accredited tourism operator, and Mr Davis said the company applied for an Enviro endorsement to the general Qualmark certification to formally recognise the company’s sustainability efforts. These include undertaking energy audits, introducing fuel monitoring equipment, trials of biofuels and providing free travel to community charitable and cultural organisations.
Mr Davis thanked staff for their contribution to this endorsement.
“Our staff are the key to our business. They provide positive, welcoming, and efficient service in a way that enables our customers to enjoy their travel experience with Interislander. Interislander and its staff are integral parts of our communities and environment, and this endorsement recognises that.”
Qualmark is a government and private sector partnership. Qualmark licenses professional and trustworthy New Zealand tourism businesses to use the Qualmark ‘tourism’s official quality mark’ to help international and domestic travellers select places to stay, things to do and ways to get around.
Enviro Awards are given to businesses that perform well in the areas of energy efficiency, waste management, water conservation, community activities and conservation initiatives.
