New Zealand Invention, Springfree™ Trampoline, Wins International Design Excellence Award
CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (July 4, 2011) - Springfree™ Trampoline, designed by Dr. Keith Alexander of the University of Canterbury, received a Silver International Design Excellence Award (IDEA®) from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). The IDEA® program is the preeminent international design competition for industry leaders including Microsoft, Samsung of South Korea, Belkin and GE Healthcare.
“I am delighted to be recognized by the Industrial Designers Society of America because the IDEA competition is a celebration of the year’s most inventive and creative products,” said Dr. Keith Alexander. “This award reflects the innovative and revolutionary design of Springfree Trampoline and recognizes many years of hard work and commitment by our team. Springfree Trampoline is the benchmark by which all other trampolines should be measured.”
The 2011 IDEA jury, composed of 20 international design experts from design consultancies, corporations and universities, focused on several areas of industrial design excellence including innovation; benefit to the user; and unmet needs for the design research category.
“We are proud to stand alongside other 2011 IDEA Award winners which include some of the world’s most established consumer product brands who have demonstrated innovation in their respective fields,” said Steven Holmes, president and CEO, Springfree Trampoline. “Innovative design is the foundation of our business and this award inspires us to constantly strive for new design solutions to keep families safe.”
Springfree Trampoline’s one-of-a-kind design removes areas that cause injury on spring-based trampolines. The design replaces steel springs with a flexible composite rod system, removes hard edges and a need for padding with the SoftEdge mat and has a strong FlexiNet® enclosure with flexible enclosure rods to keep jumpers safely on the trampoline.
