Whitcoulls Staff Relieved Sale Process Complete
“Whitcoulls staff are relieved that the sale process of the former REDGroup Retail company to the James Pascoe Group has now been completed,” said Robert Reid, General Secretary of the National Distribution Union.
“Staff were notified of the completion of sale today.”
“There was some worry on Friday and over the weekend when the original date for the sale passed without the sale being completed.”
“But now this is done and dusted The workers know their jobs are now secure.”
Robert Reid said that there were still a number of issues to deal with that relate to the sale of the business and the Individual Employment Agreements that workers were required to sign in order to work for the new company.
“We will need to deal with these issues with both the Administrator and the new Whitcoulls management over the next few weeks and months,” he said.
“The NDU has already completed negotiations of a Collective Agreement with the new owners of Whitcoulls for its members in the Distribution Centre.”
“We will now be talking to Whitcoulls shop workers to see whether they wish to join the NDU and negotiate a Collective Agreement to cover their work as well,” Robert Reid said.
