Orion earthquake response
Latest update 12.00pm, Tuesday 14 June 2011
Orion has now restored power to 95% of households and businesses after yesterday's earthquakes, and continues to make good progress with power restoration across the city.
A significant area of the eastern suburbs, including parts of Sumner, now have power reconnected. Power remains off in areas around the Avon River, including parts of Dallington and Shirley, the hill suburbs, and also parts of Prebbleton in the south. Orion expects to restore power to most of Mt Pleasant and Redcliffs by tonight.
Orion General Manager Commercial Rob Jamieson says some residents in pockets across the city need to be prepared to be without power overnight tonight. The network company will provide further details of these areas where possible later today.
"Our network has sustained some damage, particularly in some areas around the Avon River, however there's much less damage than we encountered after the February 22 earthquake," Mr Jamieson says.
Generators will be used to supply power where necessary.
Important messages for
residents:

* Contact friends and family for help where necessary
* If your power is not yet on, turn the power off at the main switch
* Stay away from any exposed electrical wires.
