New Zealand celebrates Global Wind Day for the first time tomorrow 15 June

For the first time, New Zealand is joining in with Global Wind Day and celebrating the growing contribution wind energy
makes to the country’s energy supply.
Global Wind Day, 15 June, is Kiwis’ opportunity to embrace wind, its power and potential.
Fraser Clark, chief executive of the New Zealand Wind Energy Association, says: “The wind energy industry in New Zealand
is now an established part of our electricity supply, with a doubling of production in the last 4 years. And wind energy
is forecast to grow to 20% of all electricity generation by 2030.”
New Zealand has some of the best performing wind farms in the world thanks to one of the best wind energy resources. Mr
Clark says it is something Kiwis should be proud of. “We’re a leader in this field and our achievements in building wind
farms that are economically competitive without any form of subsidy are recognised internationally.”
The wind energy industry has geared up to support Global Wind Day, with a photography competition, opportunities to
climb wind turbines and art competitions for school pupils.
