North Auckland businesses line up for awards success

Judging by the number of entries submitted for this year’s local business awards, north Auckland businesses stand out from the crowd.

By close of application 156 entries had been received for the Westpac Auckland North Business Awards – the second highest total in its 14 year history.

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development, which runs the awards, is delighted with the response.

“It’s inspiring that so many businesses are in a position to celebrate their own success, but are also willing to throw their hat in the ring for recognition against their competitors and truly stand out in the community,” says Manager - Business Development Ngaio Merrick.

“This reinforces our belief that despite some challenging economic conditions, there are many world-class success stories in north Auckland.

“We are particularly pleased to see so many entries in the Benefitz Best Startup Business and Auckland Chamber of Commerce Best Emerging Business categories as it shows an economy which embraces new ventures,” says Ms Merrick.

Significant numbers of entries were also received in the Mitre 10 Excellence in Service Delivery and Actionmail Excellence in Marketing categories.

Primary sponsor Westpac believes the breadth of 2011 entries is a direct reflection of the economic makeup of the area.

General Manager Business Banking, Ian Blair, says, “North Auckland hosts many successful and vibrant businesses that contribute to the Auckland and New Zealand economy. We are extremely pleased that this continues to be reflected in the quality and volume of entries in these business awards. ”

The annual Westpac Auckland North Business Awards aims to promote, encourage, support and celebrate business success in the north Auckland area.

The 2011 finalists will be announced in late July, with the winners unveiled at a Gala Dinner at the North Shore Events Centre on 2 September, 2011.
