Halberg Trust Makes Two New Senior Appointments
Auckland, 07 June 2011 –
The Halberg Trust has made two new senior appointments to strengthen its position as one of New Zealand’s most significant charitable organisations.
Grant McCabe has been appointed Fundraising and Events Manager with the key task of managing the Trust’s showpiece, the Westpac Halberg Awards, while Elissa Downey is the new Communications and Marketing Manager with the role of establishing closer communications with the Trust’s key stakeholders.
Better known for rewarding sporting excellence with its iconic annual Westpac Halberg Awards, the Trust, established almost 50 years ago by 1960 Olympic 5000m gold medallist Sir Murray Halberg, has long been engaged in its core activity of enabling disabled people to participate in sport and recreation of their choice.
McCabe, who takes over from Julie Ryan, has considerable experience in fundraising and event management, most recently as manager of the New Zealander of the Year Awards. He has also worked extensively in event, sponsorship and project management in New Zealand and overseas.
Downey brings a wealth of not-for-profit experience to the Trust in previous stints at the National e-Health Transition Authority in Sydney, the Auckland Theatre Company and as Senior Communications Advisor with the Heart Foundation.
Halberg Trust Chief Executive Steve Hall says “more than 100 applications were received to fill these two key positions and Grant and Elissa both stood out amongst some outstanding candidates.
“I am confident we have found some great people with the energy, vision and above all, the skills to help take us forward as we continue to pursue both of our primary objectives,” he says.
Earlier Deanna Hackney took up the position of Office Admin Manager at the Trust.
