Statement from Te Ohu Kaimoana
Te Ohu Kaimoana, the Maori Fisheries Trust, said today that internal correspondence between the boards of Te Ohu
Kaimoana and Aotearoa Fisheries Limited (AFL) that was leaked to the media was part of ongoing discussions between the
two organisations.
The Chief Executive of Te Ohu Kaimoana, Mr Peter Douglas, said it was not appropriate for details of those ongoing
discussions to be made public because they were sensitive commercial matters.
The board of Te Ohu Kaimoana met in Wellington on Friday 20 May 2011, endorsed and supported Mr Ngahiwi Tomoana’s
leadership and confirmed him as chairman for the remainder of his term.
Te Ohu Kaimoana is the sole shareholder of Aotearoa Fisheries Limited (AFL) and appoints its board. AFL, in turn,
manages the 50 percent shareholding in New Zealand’s largest seafood company, Sealord Group Ltd, which is ultimately
owned by Te Ohu Kaimoana. The other 50 percent shareholder in Sealord is Japanese seafood giant, Nippon Suisan Kaisha,
Ltd.
