New President and Vice President for Guild’s Board

20 May 2011

New President and Vice President for Guild’s Board

Karen Crisp has been elected as President of the Board of the Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand (the Guild), while Ken Orr is the new Vice President. Both are experienced community pharmacists and pharmacy owners, and have significant Board experience. The handover to Karen and Ken takes place at the Guild’s Annual General Meeting in June.

Karen has been Vice President of the Guild since 2010 and owns a community pharmacy in Christchurch. She has been a community pharmacist for 25 years and is on the Board on the Canterbury Community Pharmacy Group, is actively involved in the Aged Care Workstream of the Canterbury Clinical Network, and is a Board member of the Christchurch After Hours Pharmacy and the Pharmacy Industry Training Organisation.

“I am delighted to be elected as President of the Board,” says Karen. “I will continue my work on the vision of community pharmacists being fully utilised as medicines experts in the primary health care team. I see community pharmacy owners as key partners to enabling this.

“I will also be supporting the development of an invigorated Pharmacy Services Agreement.”

Ken Orr has been a Board member since 2008 and sits on the board of the Guild’s subsidiary, Pharmaceutical Services Limited. Ken owns five community pharmacies in the Northland region and also sits on the Board of Pharmacybrands Limited.

Karen replaces Ian Johnson who has been President since 2008. Ian became President during a period of significant change for the organisation, both internally and in its approach to its stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Health and the DHBs. The Guild and its members appreciate the time and expertise he has contributed over the past three years. As the Immediate Past President, Ian continues to have a role on the Board.

• Kirsty Croucher (Midland Division)
• Stuart Hebberd (Central Division)
• Paul Larson (Southern Division)
• Grant Short (Midland Division)
• Mark Webster (Southern Division)
• Alan Wham (Co-opted)

The Board is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Guild.
