New tourism product set to wow at TRENZ 2011

New tourism product set to wow at TRENZ 2011

International travel Buyers at TRENZ 2011 will discover new tourism products ranging from Auckland gourmet food and wine tours to a Ruapehu eco lodge operating on solar and wind power with its own self-composting toilet and 360° degree mountain views.

Taking place in Queenstown in the heart of the Southern Lakes region from 22-25 May 2011, TRENZ is the New Zealand tourism industry’s largest annual international trade event and an opportunity for the country’s leading quality tourism operators to showcase their product to the world’s travel Buyers.

“New product and first time Exhibitors at TRENZ will be a highlight for the almost 300 Buyers who will be looking for fresh and innovative tourism products they can sell to consumers in their home market,” explains Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) Chief Executive Tim Cossar.

“This year’s TRENZ has almost 50 new products on show. We also have 23 operators who are exhibiting at the four-day event for the first time.

“What’s particularly pleasing is the diversity, both in terms of the new product on offer and the regional spread – from volcanic tours of Auckland to a luxury boutique lodge in Dunedin to a Bay of Islands heli-cruise island escape.”

Takaro Trails Cycle Tours in the Hawke’s Bay is a first-time TRENZ Exhibitor.

“With two seasons now under our belt, our cycle tour product has been tested to a point where we can confidently welcome overseas visitors and give them a great New Zealand experience,” explains owner Jenny Ryan, who says she is aiming to sign contracts for the coming season at TRENZ.

The young business offers self-guided cycling tours, with those taking in the region’s wineries amongst its most popular.

“Thanks to $2.5 million recently received from the government’s national cycleway scheme, approximately 70km of new cycle trails are currently being built in our region,” says Ms Ryan.
“This means by summer 2011 we’ll have new itineraries to offer international visitors with even more ‘off road’ options which will certainly increase our appeal for cycle tourists of all ages and abilities.”

Greymouth’s Shantytown Heritage Park has been in business for 40 years and is continually looking for fresh ways to tell the stories of the region’s colonial settlers. It is using TRENZ 2011 to launch its new holographic theatre to the international market, says Marketing Manager Janet Luxton.

“The theatre uses 21st century technology to tell short stories of local characters and events, bringing to life the beautiful environment that visitors experience here through the trials the early colonial pioneers suffered settling the wild and isolated West Coast.

“TRENZ is a huge and important investment for Shantytown Heritage Park. We are targeting our regular customers and developing new markets. We’ll use TRENZ to research and gain an understanding of the type of attractions and activities those emerging markets want to see.”

About TRENZ
TIA manages TRENZ, which will bring together about 280 New Zealand tourism operators (Exhibitors) with a similar number of invited international travel and tourism buyers from 31countries, as well as media. The event directly helps to grow New Zealand’s tourism industry, worth $9.5 billion in foreign exchange annually. Hosted by the Southern Lakes region, TRENZ 2011 will be at the Queenstown Events Centre, 22-25 May.

TRENZ is supported by Tourism New Zealand, Air New Zealand, Qantas, host region Southern Lakes and other industry partners.
