New Zealand’s wood industries congratulate their 2010-2011 Fitec graduates
Fitec is hosting ten graduation ceremonies over the next seven weeks to celebrate the training achievements of more than
1,174 wood industry modern apprentices and trainees from 398 companies, who have completed around 1,570 national
certificates in 2010-2011.
Fitec Chief Executive, Ian Boyd says the graduation ceremonies are an opportunity to recognise the hard work, commitment
and dedication to learning each individual has shown.
“Our graduates are all ages and from many different backgrounds. What they have in common is a motivation to learn and
becoming qualified in their profession.
“The value of training for graduates, their employers and their communities is immense. By choosing to improve their
vocational knowledge, they become role models for others in the industry, they increase their own skills and confidence
and they add significant value and improved productivity to the industry as a whole.”
The graduations are sponsored by ACC. ACC Programme Manager, Don Ramsay says, ACC is delighted to continue its
involvement with the Fitec graduation ceremonies, this year.
“These ceremonies celebrate the completion of qualifications that have been worked on over time, and are an
opportunity to welcome a new group of professional, qualified people, into the industry.
Mr Ramsey says it is very rewarding to see people achieving at the highest level, and to join with FITEC, graduates,
friends and family, to celebrate their success.
The sector is booming, he says, so their arrival is timely, and the level of professionalism they have achieved will
help ensure that they work safely, which is the prime concern of ACC.
All graduates have completed their study towards national certificates while working full time.
The celebrations are being held in, Whangarei (12 May), Hawera (13 May), Gisborne (20 May), Masterton (26 May), Napier
(27 May), Dunedin (10 June), Nelson (17 June), Taupo (22 June) and Rotorua (24 June). Employers, colleagues and families
will be attending to support their graduates.
