Local Team Come Out on Top
The trophy cabinet is continuing to grow yet again for Fastway Couriers Tauranga after receiving yet another national
award over the weekend. Following local Courier Franchisee Bill Sampson taking out top honours at the Westpac New
Zealand Franchise of the Year Awards 2009/2010, fellow courier Whare Tipene has now gained the coveted title as National
Courier Franchisee of the year 2011 at Fastway Couriers Annual Awards held in Wellington recently.
Operating in a territory containing 384 individual streets with 154 active customers can be a challenging task; however
during his time with Fastway Whare has grown his area by over 300%, and is currently averaging 5% growth each month. He
is recognised as a strong team player always willing to help and is held in high esteem by his colleagues and customers
alike. He manages to mix polite professionalism with a laugh and a joke and has been known to get in his van after work,
drive 300km to help a customer out and then be back on deck at 5am the next morning.
Having been in the Fastway Couriers business for over 4 years, Whare puts his winning formula down to complete focus on
customer service, and ensuring he do everything to the delight the customer to the highest possible standard. He was
very humbled by the award, and commented that, "I was so surprised to hear that I won the top award. I simply go out
every day and run my business, look after my customers and help them to keep their business running smoothly, so this
award is a big surprise and a great extra for me."
“What a legend” was the opening statement in the nomination for this year’s Courier Franchisee of the year.
And legendary would be an appropriate term to describe both the individual being celebrated and the dedication he gives
to his customers. Receiving over 50 customer testimonials in support of Whare’s nomination, each one outlined why this
courier is a credit to Fastway Couriers and a great face to the business.
Owner of Fastway Couriers Tauranga, Regional Franchise Hugh Stocker said, "The Tauranga franchise is overjoyed with
Whare's win. He has worked extremely hard in his territory and is well deserving of the honour. Over the past four and
half years Whare has built the territory up from only residential deliveries to now having many businesses, including
two major companies. Competitors have targeted these businesses but they stay loyal to Whare because of his friendly
nature, excellent customer service and outstanding work ethic. If we could bottle or clone him we would, he's an asset
to Fastway."
