BurgerFuel launches storewide Foursquare campaign with L&P
BurgerFuel will pioneer location based social media in New Zealand this month launching a nationwide promotion featuring L&P. BurgerFuel will use location based social media platform Foursquare in what will be the first campaign of this nature and magnitude in New Zealand to date.
The promotion will give Foursquare users a free L&P in the classic brown glass bottle when they ‘check in’ at any BurgerFuel and buy a Bacon Backfire, Bastard or any other burger for that matter.
BurgerFuel and L&P are two Kiwi icons founded on the innovative ‘number 8 wire’ mentality. This is the perfect fit for the two brands to complete a undeniably classic Kiwi combo – BurgerFuel with L&P.
Foursquare, not to be confused with the cornershop dairy, now has over 8 million users across its a social media network and works along the lines of Twitter and Facebook. It incorporates GPS technology and game-like mechanics as users “check in” to any location, telling their friends where they are, what they’re doing and even earning them accolades (known as badges) or rewards as they share their experiences with their online social sphere.
Foursquare is being touted by many across the globe as the next Twitter with its founder, Dennis Crowley, hailed as the ‘The New King of Social Media’ on the cover of Wired UK’s July 2010 issue.
BurgerFuel Marketing Manager Alexis Lam comments that the New Zealand company has been experimenting with Foursquare and other social media platforms for a while now. “So far, our customers have said they like what we’re doing in the social media space, so we’re more than happy to push new ideas that add to the BurgerFuel experience using channels that suit their lifestyles and their outlook. Even before that, I don’t think businesses in general can ignore the Foursquare concept when there are over 2.5 million check-ins per day.”
To participate in this phenomenon the Foursquare app is available for free download on iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and other GPS capable smartphones.
