Additional ASB branches open in Christchurch to meet customer demand

ASB is this week opening two additional branches to provide extra support for Christchurch customers following the February earthquake.

These two temporary branches, at Barrington Mall and Parklands, are new locations for ASB and are part of the $250 million investment package announced by the Bank on 26 March to help kick-start the Christchurch rebuild and re-affirm its commitment to the city.

The two bright yellow portacom branches will offer the full suite of banking services. They include bank teller stations, meeting rooms, internet banking services and video conferencing facilities for face-to-face advice from ASB specialists around the country.

ASB's General Manager Branch Banking, Grant Gilbert, who is based in Christchurch, says these additional two temporary branches will offer easy access by both foot and vehicle for customers in the north-east and south of the city. "We've located these new ASB branches in two areas of growing customer demand following the earthquake," he says.

The Parklands branch will help support customers in the north-east of Christchurch while ASB rebuilds its presence at The Palms, Shirley. The temporary branch at Barrington Mall will operate until a new permanent branch is open. A further new branch at Rangiora is also planned.

"Our temporary branches will be staffed by local ASB people who understand the challenges faced by Christchurch residents and businesses following the quake. ASB remains committed to Christchurch for the long term, our $250 million investment package having been introduced in response to customer demand and to support and help rebuild this great city," says Mr Gilbert.

The Barrington temporary branch, located at the Barrington Mall carpark on the corner of Simeon and Athelstan Streets, opens today (Monday 18 April), while the Parklands branch, located at 60 Queenspark Drive, (corner Chadbury Street and Queenspark Drive) is planned to open on 26 April.
