Expectations high for successful TRENZ

The Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) Board is delighted with the response to this year’s TRENZ, the largest annual international trade event on the New Zealand tourism industry calendar.
Speaking after a Board meeting in Wellington this week, TIA Chairman Norm Thompson said there has been overwhelming interest from New Zealand tourism operators wanting to exhibit at TRENZ 2011, on in Queenstown 22-25 May.
“We have reached capacity for Exhibitor numbers, with 280 expected to showcase their products and services. These include more than 30 Exhibitors who have new products to bring to the international marketplace and 16 first-time TRENZ Exhibitors.
“They will meet about 280 high quality, targeted international travel Buyers from about 30 countries. The Buyers are from New Zealand’s most important visitor markets, both established and emerging, including Australia, China, Japan, UK and USA.
“We couldn’t hope for better Buyer numbers,” added Mr Thompson. “They have also exceeded TIA’s pre-earthquake targets.”
TRENZ is being held for the first time in Queenstown in the Southern Lakes region, and Mr Thompson said the location had obviously helped attract many high calibre Buyers.
More than 900 delegates in total will attend TRENZ 2011, including a strong contingent of international and domestic media. Many of those delegates will pass through Christchurch, helping support the region’s quake-hit tourism sector, said Mr Thompson.
“TRENZ 2011 will generate new business for our tourism industry, New Zealand’s largest foreign exchange earner and an important contributor to jobs and wealth in communities across the nation.
“After a challenging start to the year, TRENZ marks the start of six months of positive action for the tourism industry. Shortly after TRENZ delegates depart Queenstown, the skiers will flock in, and in September Rugby World Cup 2011 kicks off, the biggest international event ever held in New Zealand.”
TRENZ 2011 is managed by TIA, with support from Tourism New Zealand, Air New Zealand, Qantas and other industry partners.
