Bay Of Many Coves Offers “Drop Dead” Gorgeous Setting For Photographic Retreats
Marlborough Sounds resort Bay of Many Coves is again offering recreational photographers the opportunity to hone their skills under the guidance of one of New Zealand’s leading professional photographers, over a long weekend immersed in luxury.
Following the success of last year’s event, the resort has scheduled two photography retreats this year: July 1 - 3 and September 2 - 4, each hosted by award winning photographer Simon Woolf.
Suitable for both novice and professional photographers, the retreats provide a spectacular setting of unique landscapes, native flora, fauna, marine and cultural subjects in which to develop skills and create beautiful images. The September retreat, which is specifically focused on natural environment photography, features a fully guided expedition to the uninhabited Motuara Island, home to rare and endangered species.
When each day is over, participants can relax in the resort’s five -star luxury accommodation with fine wine and cuisine. Both weekend retreats include a special degustation dinner with Executive Chef Jonno Rogers on the Saturday night. “It is a drop dead gorgeous setting for photography,” says Simon Woolf. “In the whole of New Zealand it is one of my top five places to photograph, it’s so utterly photogenic, regardless of the conditions.” Both retreats offer a well structured schedule that includes night time and dawn landscape shoots, discussions about what makes a good image and the chance to critique the weekend’s efforts. The July retreat includes macro photography focusing on insects, ferns and flowers, marine and bird life and the art of photographing people whereas the September Natural Environment Photography retreat ( which encompasses travel within the Marlborough Sounds) also incorporates guidance on preparing yourself for photography at different locations.
Sigma will provide a range of their lenses for participants to try and Epson are providing a range of printers to facilitate printing during the weekend. Participants will need to bring their own cameras and laptops.
Partners accompanying retreat participants will also be well-catered for, with a spa treatment in the Bay of Many Coves’ exclusive Miritu Spa and bottle of Taittinger Champagne included in the weekend package price.
