ASB Community Trust made grants worth a total of $2.36 million to 80 organisations in its latest sport and recreation grants round.
The Trust makes grants to not-for-profit organisations throughout Auckland and Northland. In its latest round the grants included $150,000 each for Sport Northland and the Auckland Central Sports Trust, $104,000 for Tennis New Zealand and $100,000 for the Northern Football Federation.
ASB Community Trust CEO Jennifer Gill said these regional and national sports trusts and organisations are having a big impact and their work is strongly aligned with ASB Community Trust’s vision for the region.
“Our Trust wants to increase community participation and engagement in recreation,” she said. “To accomplish that, we support those recreation and sports organisations that are increasing participation by younger and older people.”
Other regional sports trusts and organisations to gain funding include Sport Waitakere with $88,500, Counties Manukau Sports Foundation $86,500 and Basketball Auckland, $80,000.
At the other end of the scale, ASB Community Trust continues to encourage grass-roots participation, with a number of clubs and organisations receiving grants of up to 10,000. This helped with things like sports equipment, junior uniforms and lane hire costs for swim clubs, Ms Gill said.
