Webb's Set Record With Million Dollar Ferrari
The opportunity to acquire both road and race cars sourced from the finest collections in New Zealand, attracted over
400 people to Webb's Important Cars and Classic Motorcycle auction, held at Shed Five on Tuesday evening. Several
telephone bidders both nationally and internationally, kept the phone lines busy, while filling the space wall to wall
were those who just didn't want to miss the action as New Zealand auction price records were set.
Managing Director of Webb's and classic motorcycle collector Neil Campbell has curated some of the most alluring
motorcycle auctions seen in recent years. Quickly gathering an international reputation in this field, Mr Campbell
partnered with Jack Quinn to gather a remarkable offering of both Important Cars and Classic Motorcycles.
Turning over more than $1,500,000 the auction set a number of new records. The range and appeal of cars in the sale was
unprecedented for the local market, a concours winning 1963 Ferrari 250 Lusso, quite likely the best example worldwide
reached a New Zealand record price for a car sold at auction when it sold post-sale for $1.1 million. Further record
prices were set for the motorcycles; the 1964 Matchless Rickman Matisse G50 reached a remarkable $60,000, while the 1950
HRD Vincent Rapide Series B, one of the most desirable and influential designs of the mid-20th century achieved a record
price of $52,500. Unmatched was the $100,000 reached for the 1955 Vincent Black Knight. The sales total is currently
$1,400,000 and building with after sale negotiations continuing.
Neil Campbell is thrilled with the results, and with the next auction set for the week before the Rugby World Cup
