MYOB Offers Christchurch Businesses The Tools For Recovery

MYOB is giving Canterbury businesses the tools to cope with recovery – for free, and from any location with internet access.

The Christchurch business community has faced a great deal of uncertainty since the February 22 earthquake devastated the city’s central business district. While many have been lucky enough to keep their offices on the outskirts of the city and outside cordoned areas, others have been forced to take time out, take their business further afield, or look at other operating options, such as working remotely.

MYOB New Zealand general manager Julian Smith says the earthquake’s effect on local businesses – and people’s livelihoods – has been far reaching, but MYOB is doing all they can to help the people of Christchurch get back on their feet.

“Our thoughts are with all our clients and friends, families, businesses and workmates that have been affected by this devastating event,” says Mr Smith.

“At MYOB we have been extremely fortunate, and were able to resume full business operations at our Christchurch support centre almost immediately. Since then we’ve been looking at ways to support local businesses to recover, and we think our LiveAccounts online accounting software could be a perfect solution for business owners who have been displaced, but are ready to start getting back to business as quickly as possible.”

LiveAccounts allows business owners to manage their finances and accounts remotely, and MYOB is offering Canterbury businesses a free subscription to the service until the end of the year.

“Being able to offer LiveAccounts free to all Canterbury businesses is going to help a lot of business owners get back on track with some of their essential operations – even if they are having to work remotely at the moment.

“This software is safe and secure, it allows you to link to your business bank accounts to save time, and it can also be accessed by your accountant – even if they’re working remotely as well.”

MYOB’s Christchurch support centre has already been helping businesses that have needed to run remotely – offering a complimentary ‘serviced office’ facility and access to meeting rooms to displaced businesses from their office on Sir William Pickering Drive. Replacement software is also being provided at no cost, and clients with active MYOB BusinessSupport plans have had their plans extended for three months.

“This is about helping businesses to get through, because the economic impact is going to be far-reaching and long-lasting. Not only that, but the emotional toll can be enormous for people who have put everything they have into a business they love, only to see it suffer because they’re struggling to get back on their feet after an event like this.

“People throughout the Canterbury region are focusing hard on the essentials at the moment, like finding a new premises and supporting their staff, but cash flow also important, and we want to make sure we can support businesses as those issues start to come to the fore. Having the flexibility to take care of their business remotely is a huge part of that.”
