New Zealand IPv6 Task Force launches online Service Directory

Media Release – 21 March 2011 (sent on behalf of the New Zealand IPv6 Task Force)

The New Zealand IPv6 Task Force has today launched an online Service Directory to help organisations with transition planning and adoption of IPv6 – the next generation Internet addressing protocol.

The Service Directory contains a list of New Zealand-based vendors, trainers, consultants, service providers and IT integrators who have expertise in IPv6. It can be found on the Task Force’s website at www.ipv6.org.nz .

New Zealand IPv6 Task Force Convenor Dr Murray Milner describes transitioning to IPv6 as a “journey” that requires sound planning and, often, outside advice. “Whatever step you have reached in your IPv6 implementation, there are a growing number of firms listed in the Service Directory with the skills and experience to assist.”

The Service Directory is a work in progress, and the Task Force encourages businesses and service providers that are not listed and who provide IPv6-related equipment or services in New Zealand to apply to be listed via the website’s online form.

Milner says the adoption of IPv6 in New Zealand is picking up momentum, with the IPv6 activity of over 20 organisations, including the University of Auckland, Fujitsu and the Department of Internal Affairs, now being promoted on the Task Force’s website.

In the lead-up to World IPv6 day on 8 June 2011, the Task Force is also spearheading a concerted campaign of industry engagement, focused on raising awareness of IPv6 among sectors such as digital content providers, banking and tourism.

About the New Zealand IPv6 Task Force: The New Zealand IPv6 Task Force is tasked with developing an IPv6 action plan, training and education options, and assisting with IPv6 implementation planning. The Task Force is aligned with the Global IPv6 Forum, and its work is driven by the impending exhaustion of IPv4 addressing and the associated risk and additional cost that this is expected to impose on New Zealand organisations.
