*Government Vandalises Christchurch Businesses*
Libertarianz Party leader Richard McGrath has called for a moratorium on the further demolition of Christchurch buildings damaged in February’s earthquake until the owners have had the opportunity to search them and retrieve what property they can.
“It is outrageous that politicians are able to travel to all areas of the Christchurch CBD affected by the earthquake, yet legitimate business owners have to sneak through cordons and then smuggle essential business equipment out of their own buildings.”
“John Key and Phil Goff have had ample time to complete their photo shoots. It is now time to let property owners back into their buildings, to salvage what they can and get their businesses up and running again.”
“The lack of consultation with property owners is inexcusable. Christchurch's recovery depends on getting CBD businesses up and running again. We should give business owners a chance to salvage what they can,” he added.
“Antony Gough and other business owners are quite right to be angry at the way this National-led government has turned the Christchurch CBD into a war zone, pitting the people who provide employment for other New Zealanders up against a clumsy and reckless administration who seem intent on destroying their livelihoods.”
“My party wants the government to announce a ceasefire so that business owners have a chance to rescue valuable records, documents and equipment. It is completely unacceptable that people like Mr Gough should have to sneak around in the night like thieves, while Key, Goff and other opportunists get to smile and wave for the cameras.”
