Quake Appeal: $600,000 from global partners and Silver Fern

New Zealand Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal ‘$600,000 from global partners and Silver Fern Farms cooperative’

Silver Fern Farms and its global partners will be donating at least $600,000 to the New Zealand Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal.

Last week the company announced an independent initiative whereby, on behalf of its farmer-shareholders and suppliers, it would donate the equivalent value of industry good body levies on all sheep, beef and deer processed during the week commencing 14th March 2011 and hoped that this would be matched by contributions from its international customers.

“Based on livestock booked for processing next week we will donate at least $150,000 and to date we have received quite an overwhelming level of donations, in excess of NZ $450,000, from our partners in international markets” said Keith Cooper, Silver Fern Farms Chief Executive.

Many of the donations have been accompanied by messages from customers conveying their deep sympathy and compassion for those affected by the earthquake, reflecting the close association Silver Fern Farms has with its global customers and the affinity those customers have, in turn, with New Zealand.

“The significant commitment that our customers have made, from as far afield as Europe, Middle East and China to North America and the Pacific islands, reflects the genuine concern and empathy they feel for the plight of our colleagues and greater community in Christchurch”.

“Many of these customers are loyal and steadfast partners with whom we have developed relationships over many years and we have been humbled by the extent of their response and their generosity”.

“Great business is built on great relationships - this support from our global partners coming together to jointly support the people of Christchurch facing hardship as a result of recent tragic events demonstrates the strengths of those partnerships."
