New Zealand has head
in the Cloud
New Zealand has been named the most cloud savvy country in Asia Pacific, according to recent research commissioned by Microsoft.
When asked about their understanding of cloud computing solutions, 43 percent of those surveyed responded with positive knowledge, resulting in New Zealand receiving an average score of 3.3 out of 5 - more than half a point higher than Thailand, Korea and Malaysia (2.6, 2.7 and 3.0 respectively).
The research goes on to highlight that 81 percent of New Zealand organisations view cloud computing as a priority for IT and have funding in place to implement this, with this statistic rising to 94 percent in larger organisations. This directly correlates to recent Gartner research showcased at the Microsoft Cloud Summit in Auckland last month, showing more than 40 percent of Asia Pacific organisations have plans to invest in cloud solutions in 2011.
Errol Rasit, keynote speaker at the Summit, says cloud computing has been named the number one technology focus for CIOs.
"The value of cloud computing is in its delivery as a service. An organisation's depth and breadth of IT skills will determine what cloud solutions will be chosen, and vendors need to disconnect price from cost, and reconnect price to value," says Errol, Principal Analyst for Gartner Research.
With technology moving at a high pace, there is danger of and missing the boat. Colin Timm, Managing Director Public Sector, Microsoft Asia Pacific says organisations are now, more than ever, looking to invest in a cloud solution.
"The current market shows technology being taken up at a quicker rate than ever before and there is a lot of buzz around cloud computing. The decision making cycles are getting faster and faster, and it is a case of keep up or get left behind."
"Organisations are demanding agility and reliability from technology solutions and the cloud is able to provide this. Microsoft is fully committed to advancing our partners and customers - ensuring they are given every opportunity to succeed with the latest technology available."
