New Marketing Manager Appointed at Ngāi Tahu Tourism
An experienced tourism professional has been appointed Marketing Manager Ngāi Tahu Tourism Southern Region.
Steven Pickering takes up the role in late April and will bring more than 14 years experience to the position. He will move to Queenstown from Auckland where he has worked for the past 10 years in senior marketing roles at Tourism Holdings Limited, (THL) most recently as Interactive Manager.
Ngāi Tahu Tourism Southern Regional Manager David Kennedy said the role was integral to the protection and further development of the southern region’s Ngai Tahu tourism brands.
“Ngāi Tahu Tourism Southern Region operates several iconic brands that have been carefully and successfully developed over the years. These include Shotover Jet Queenstown, Dart River Jet Safaris and Hollyford Track Guided Walks.
“Steven’s role is really that of an export marketer where the brands are developed and promoted internationally. This needs to be balanced with maintaining the values and reflecting the aspirations of the Ngāi Tahu parent company.”
Mr Pickering has a Bachelor of Business degree with a double major in Marketing and Tourism from Auckland University of Technology. Prior to working at THL he held marketing positions at Nike, Australia, and Adventure Rental Vehicles in New Zealand and the US.
Mr Kennedy said he was delighted to welcome an online and social media marketing expert to the team.
“Steven has the experience and proven know-how in both traditional and modern marketing channels. He is also well versed in all aspects of tourism industry management with clear understanding of business strategy and revenue streams,” he said.
Mr Pickering is a regular visitor to Queenstown and said he is very happy to have secured a position that offers a brand portfolio renowned for its high quality customer experience.
“Ngāi Tahu Tourism is a premier tourism operation,” he said. “Each business unit retains its own identity, uniqueness, personality and culture and each offers an authentic individual experience. I will relish the scope and opportunity this position offers.”
Mr Pickering moves to Queenstown with his family. He is active in the outdoors and has completed several multi-sporting events including Coast to Coast, Lake to Lighthouse and the Auckland Marathon. He also enjoys kayaking, surf-skiing, fishing, hunting and snow sports.
