Harbour Asset Management Promotes Three Team Members

Wellington fund manager Harbour Asset Management (Harbour) today announced that three members of its team have been promoted to more senior roles within the company.

Jody Kaye who joined Harbour last year becomes Director and Chief Operating Officer; Craig Stent, who was a Vice President, is now Director and Research Analyst; and Oyvinn Rimer, previously an Assistant Research Analyst has been appointed Research Analyst.

Harbour’s managing director Andrew Bascand said, “These appointments recognise the performance of the team in its first year of operation. In just under 12 months, Harbour has built a well-resourced, highly professional, full service funds management business. These promotions are an acknowledgment of the contribution each has made to make that possible.”

Jody Kaye, Director and Chief Operating Officer, has 17 years’ experience in the funds management industry both here and in Australia. He joined Harbour from First NZ Capital Investment Management Limited and has had previous roles with Arcus Investment Management (now AXA Global Investors), ING (NZ) Ltd, BT Funds Management Ltd (NZ) and ANZ Wealth Management. As Chief Operating Officer he is responsible for the smooth running of the Harbour Asset Management Business, including marketing, client relationship management, product development and managing the outsourced fund administration. Jody has a BBS (Hons) from Massey University.

Craig Stent, Director and Research Analyst, joined Harbour at its inception in 2010 from AllianceBernstein New Zealand where he had been employed for the previous seven years. Craig began at AllianceBernstein as a Client Relations Associate and became an Assistant Research Analyst in July 2004. He has previously worked for the Bank of New Zealand, Chase Global Investor Services (London) and the Bank of Ireland in roles responsible for monitoring and controlling daily cash activity and management of support staff for Foreign Exchange Trading Desks. At Harbour he provides company analysis and modelling, with focus on consumer, property and utility stocks, and is involved in the firm’s risk modelling and portfolio construction. Craig has a BCA from Victoria University of Wellington and is a CFA charter holder.

Oyvinn Rimer, Research Analyst, also joined Harbour in early 2010 with two years’ experience at AllianceBernstein New Zealand as an Assistant Research Analyst. As Research Analyst, Oyvinn provides company analysis and modelling with a focus on coal, oil, gas and agricultural stocks. He is also responsible for portfolio implementation, and using the Order Execution system, conducting daily reconciliations. Oyvinn is a graduate of the University of Canterbury, he has an MCom with first class Honours in Finance, and is currently a 2011 Level III CFA candidate.

As at 31 December 2010, Harbour managed over $700m in Australasian equities and last month launched a fixed interest service for both retail and wholesale clients. The fixed interest team’s experience includes managing New Zealand and foreign bond portfolios in excess of $2bn, and it already has over $75m in bonds under management.

“Harbour has had a great start which we now look to build upon; I am confident that we have an experienced and talented team and the necessary systems in place to provide excellent returns for clients," Andrew Bascand said.
