LanzaTech wins Red Herring Global 100 place
Auckland,
New Zealand January 30, 2011: LanzaTech has added another
global award to its growing list of accolades – a global
Red Herring Top 100, which recognises LanzaTech as one of
the 100 most innovative new technology companies.
Red Herring brings together industry leaders, venture capitalists and other financiers, entrepreneurs and companies from around the world to explore the strategic shifts and disruptions that new technologies will have across all continents. It identifies critical trends shaping the future of technology.
Alex Vieux, Chairman of Red Herring says choosing the best out of the previous three years was by no means a small feat: “After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed down our list from 1,200 potential companies to 200 finalists. Trying to get it down to 100 companies was a task upon itself. LanzaTech should be extremely proud of its achievement - the competition was difficult.”
Dr Jennifer Holmgren, CEO of LanzaTech, says making Red Herring’s Global 100 technology list is a tremendous honour: “LanzaTech is redefining the meaning of waste and carbon cycling and providing the means to produce real change in the clean energy sector. Red Herring’s Award is a testament to the importance of finding new answers to our global energy challenges, answers that preserve critical food and water resources to meet human needs."LanzaTech accepted the Red Herring Global 100 award at a special ceremony in Santa Monica, California during the media organization’s annual global conference.
LanzaTech was founded in early 2005 in Auckland, New Zealand to develop and commercialize a proprietary gas fermentation process that produces ethanol and high-value chemicals from renewable, non-food resources including industrial flue gases and other waste gases. LanzaTech’s patented microbe uses these waste gases as its sole source of energy and carbon, in contrast to technologies that require the use of food or farmed resources for renewable fuel production.
With offices in New Zealand, the United States and China, LanzaTech is collaborating on international projects in the steel, coal, oil and chemicals sectors. It has expanded its portfolio to include the production of 2,3-Butanediol (2,3-BD), a key building block used to make polymers, plastics and hydrocarbon fuels, such as jet fuel.
