Auckland Airport celebrates launch of new world class stores
Auckland Airport and JR/Duty Free are proud to announce the arrival of three world-class new brands to its retail
portfolio - Apple, Swatch Swiss watches and MAC Cosmetics. The new stores and retail space were unveiled on the 15th of
December by Mayor of Auckland, His Worship Len Brown, and Associate Minister of Transport Nathan Guy at a ceremony
hosted by screen actor Temuera Morrison.
The three new stores are part of the development and rejuvenation of the departures area at Auckland Airport. The
licensee in each case is JR/Duty Free, one of the two principal duty free operators at Auckland Airport.
Apple
For the first time in New Zealand, travellers will have the opportunity to buy Apple MacBook and iPads at a tax-free
price.
Apple iPods, MacBooks, iPads and accessories will be available at JR/Duty Free and supported by a free-standing
interactive promotional display that allows travellers to experience the gadgets before they buy.
Adrian Littlewood, General Manager Retail & Commercial at Auckland Airport says he was delighted to include Apple in the new retail development.
“The Apple range is well-suited to travellers’ needs as well as being a hugely sought after and desirable brand
worldwide. We envisage great support and strong sales,” says Adrian Littlewood.
MAC Cosmetics
MAC Cosmetics, one of the hottest makeup brands in the industry, will offer consumers travelling through Auckland
Airport the opportunity to purchase products from its collection of over 800 makeup and ancillary items.
MAC is a pioneer in creating professional class cosmetics and is renowned for its catwalk trends and unmistakable
colours. MAC fuses backstage artistry, creative colour and professional formulas, with expert craft and dynamic looks.
This brand is recognised as one of the most influential companies in the global cosmetics industry and stands at the
epicentre of fashion, beauty and popular culture.
“MAC is thrilled to be able to introduce the brand in Auckland Airport and we are convinced that existing and new
consumers will be drawn to our counters by the amazing collection of product on offer, expert advice from our makeup
artists, and the same excitement that MAC generates backstage at fashion shows and at counters in local markets
worldwide” says Cheryl Joannides, Regional Director of MAC Travel Retailing, Asia Pacific.
Auckland Airport has always wanted to offer travellers leading shopping opportunities in the luxury domestic market and
MAC has always maintained a dedicated following in the premium cosmetics market.
“We are thrilled that MAC agreed so quickly to be part of the Auckland Airport family, this is a fantastic partnership,”
says Adrian Littlewood, General Manager Retail & Commercial at Auckland Airport.
Swatch
Iconic Swiss watch brand Swatch has arrived at Auckland Airport. The all new Swatch kiosk is stocked with a wide variety
of Swatch watches and jewellery and is located in the heart of the Auckland Airport departures precinct.
Garry Stock, Chairman of JR/Duty Free added the positive response by travellers to all three outlets in the pre-opening
period is clearly supportive of this initiative.
Over 18 million people spend time in the Auckland Airport terminals each year; more than the busiest malls in New
Zealand. The ongoing evolution of the retail departures area, and the inclusion of these three new world-class brands,
ensures that travellers will leave with a positive view of their time in New Zealand.
Located within the international departures area, the new development combines an outstanding retail experience with an
expanded range of top quality retail outlets, food options and new local and international brands.
