Notable Updates to Karaka Catalogues
Since New Zealand Bloodstock's Karaka 2011 catalogues went to print in November there are already a number of notable
updates to the pedigrees on offer before the Christmas Carnivals get underway.
Headlining the updates is the current leader in New Zealand Bloodstock's Filly of the Year Series, King's Rose (Redoute's Choice x Nureyev's Girl).
Trained by Jason Bridgman, King's Rose was taken to Te Akau Stud's South Island base in June with the sole purpose of
preparing her for the Group 1 NZB 1000 Guineas. The plan paid dividends for the team with the daughter of Redoute's
Choice performing brilliantly to win the 1000 Guineas and take 12 points in the NZB Filly of the Year Series, taking her
to the lead. She has since added further valuable black type winning the Group 3 Eulogy Stakes in Manawatu, extending
her lead in the Series.
The well-bred three-year-old filly is represented by a half-brother in the Karaka Premier Sale at Lot 466, a colt by Red Ransom - sire of Group 1 winner Typhoon Tracy - from the Cambridge Stud draft.
The Group 2 NZB Concorde Handicap at Ellerslie earlier this month provided another pedigree update with the win by the
Ben Foote trained Ego (E Dubai).
Ego has a half-sister in the Karaka Select Sale at Lot 733 by No Excuse Needed. Her dam, Buckling, is now the dam of two foals to race for the Group 2 winner Ego and the stakes
placed Sans Souci (Pins).
Ego also holds a nomination for the Group 1 Railway Stakes on New Year's Day and the Group 1 Telegraph Handicap in late
January.
NZB Concorde placegetter Vonusti (Ustinov) - already a Group 1 winner - is also represented at Karaka, by a filly by
Perfectly Ready at Lot 9.
Ascot Farm's Lot 117, the colt by Pentire from the Jetball mare Tinsel is a full-brother to the Group 2 winner Tinseltown. Already the winner of the Group 2 Avondale Cup and the Group 3 Rotorua Cup, Tinseltown has added the Group 2 Counties
Cup and a placing in the Group 2 Waikato Gold Cup to his impressive racing record.
A few entries have now added a Group 1 performed sibling to their page. Windsor Park's colt by Golan from Akela at Lot 678 is now a half-brother to two stakes performed horses, the current two-year-old Lady Chapel, and now Lady Kipling (Savabeel) who ran a strong third in the Group 1 Levin Classic behind boom filly We Can Say It Now. Lady Kipling holds
a nomination for the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks next year.
Lot 860 from The Oaks Stud, the filly by Bachelor Duke from the Stravinsky mare Flying Firebird, is now a half-sister to the
Group 1 placed Smoulder (Traditionally). Already a stakes winning two-year-old, Smoulder ran a brave third in the Group 1 NZB 1000 Guineas
behind King's Rose.
Happy Hippy (Shamardal) has added the Listed MRC Summoned Stakes to her page; she is now a dual stakes winning filly. She is a
half-sister to Lot 72, the colt by Nadeem from Springburn in the Bluegables Farm draft.
Racing over the weekend has seen another significant pedigree update for Windsor Park's colt, Lot 195. By Lonhro from the Flying Spur mare Better Alternative, she is a half-sister to Dances on Waves who scored her first win at stakes level in Saturday's Group 2 Villiers Stakes at Randwick.
The Karaka Festival Sale also sees a number of updates including the Dubai Destination colt from the Leanach Lodge draft
at Lot 1524, out of the Danzero mare Magic Star, who is now a half-brother to the stakes winner Miss Upstart (Snippetson), the
winner of the Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes. The winner of two of her four starts, Miss Upstart is one of the leading
two-year-olds in the 2010/2011 season for trainer Graham Richardson.
