Online-Retailer iQ Toys reports busy Xmas!
Mount Maunganui online-retailer iQ Toys (www.iqtoys.co.nz) is experiencing another strong Christmas. Sales are up 9% on last year with a record 10,000 orders likely to be
processed in December alone.
To cope with demand staff numbers have grown to 25 and are likely to grow even further in 2011 according to Managing
Director, Shane Loomb.
Earlier this year iQ Toys acquired specialist online DVD retailer Gumboot (www.gumboot.co.nz) and have expanded the product range to include a comprehensive selection of books and toys. Shane says “The Gumboot
name is iconic to many New Zealanders and expats so we jumped at the chance to purchase the business”. There are plans
in 2011 to add a Kiwiana section to Gumboot to capture a larger international audience.
IQ Toys already sends a significant amount of toys to Australia through subsidiary iQ Toys Australia and Shane admits he
is surprised at the traction they are experiencing in Australia this year with minimal marketing spend. Baby Universe (www.babyuniverse.co.nz) – another company in the iQ Toys online retail group is relatively quiet in December with most expecting parents
dealing key purchasing decisions in the busy lead up to Christmas which says Shane “is just as well – we couldn’t cope
with much more!”
Hot toy picks for this Christmas are: “Playmobil, Sylvanian Families, Harumika Fashion Design Sets, Five Men Standing
Rugby World Cup game, Aquadoodle…and of course anything Lego!” says Shane.
