DairyNZ statement re announcement of new Bovine Tb Strategy
DairyNZ says the new Bovine Tuberculosis National Pest Management Strategy strikes a sensible balance.
“It tests our ability to eradicate Tb from difficult terrain which is clearly important for the long-term direction of Tb control. At the same time it ensures that investments made in the past to bring Tb under control are not lost,” says DairyNZ Chairman John Luxton.
“DairyNZ invests a significant amount ($15.5 million annually) of levy payers’ funds into the Tb NPMS, and dairy farmers pay an additional $7.5 million through the slaughter levy, so we’ve worked hard to ensure the strategy will deliver the best value for money to farmers,” he said.
“We will continue to be carefully focussed on assisting the Animal Health Board, to ensure the strategy is delivered as efficiently and effectively as possible.”
