Nationwide Search Finds New Zealand’s Most Loved Payroll Professionals

The unsung heroes of New Zealand business have been guided affectionately into the spotlight this week, as MYOB completes the search for New Zealand’s most loved Payroll Professionals.

Kiwis were encouraged to nominate their payroll professionals for MYOB’s National Payroll Professional of the Year competition – an annual search that celebrates National Payroll Professional Day on 3 December. Businesses throughout the country submitted a variety of nominations, ranging from heartfelt and humorous poems to cleverly designed posters and drawings.

MYOB general manager, Julian Smith, says he is thrilled with the effort New Zealanders have put in to this year’s entries.

“We’ve had some really creative and inspiring entries this year,” says Mr Smith. “An incredible amount of thought has gone into each and every entry, and really shows what an important role our payroll professionals play in Kiwi business.”

“We’re thrilled to be able to give New Zealanders a platform to do that through the MYOB National Payroll Professional of the Year competition, and hopefully that sentiment will be carried through to every workplace on National Payroll Professional Day this week.”

This year’s small business payroll professional of the year is Denise Nell, whose team members at Brightwater Engineering in Nelson created a heartfelt and imaginative video entry describing how fantastic she is:

Brightwater Engineering has a payroll queen Her accuracy and dedication are the best we’ve ever seen No task is too hard for her and she always has a smile If you have a query she’ll go the extra mile Her pleasant and helpful attitude Ensure that Denise is highly valued Attention to detail is never an issue All the other payroll clerks don’t have a clue…

The medium-sized business payroll professional of the year is Ali Hasrat, from freight management company Geodis Wilson in Auckland. Mr Hasrat’s team submitted a poem highlighting how valued he is:

Every fortnight without delay This man personally delivers our pay But what else does this man do That makes life easier for me and you…

So this is our Man, we need him for sure Although overworked he still takes more Not just a pay clerk he’s more you see We thank God for our Ali.

Mr Smith says he would also like to give special mentions to shortlisted payroll professionals Camille Jackson from Koru Textile Printing and Apparel Ltd., Kim Tily from IDPE Consulting Group and Lance Gear from AMI, whose team members also nominated them with some wonderfully creative entries.

“This year’s search for New Zealand’s next top payroll professional has again been a huge success – and a testament to the fact that good work never goes unnoticed,” says Mr Smith. “Both of 2010’s MYOB Payroll Professionals of the Year will receive travel vouchers to the value of $500, to give them the break they deserve for all their hard work.”
