Gas and power line engineers at Tenix call off strike action
Hundreds of gas and power line engineers in the EPMU around the North Island have called off planned strike action following a new offer from the employer, Tenix Group Pty Ltd.
The action affects around 180 workers employed by Tenix, the contracting company that maintains power lines for Powerco and the gas network in Wellington, and was to have included a ban on overtime, callout and standby arrangements.
“The union negotiating team is recommending members accept the company’s new offer and expect voting to take place at sites across the North Island over the coming days,” says Joe Gallagher, EPMU national industry organiser for the electrical sector.
The EPMU is New Zealand's largest private sector union, representing 3,000 workers in the electrocomms sector.
