Heartbreak leads to community cook book
Heartbreak leads to community cook book
We have published an “Accounting for taste” community cook book. It came about after a colleague in Christchurch, Kristen Currie, suffered the heartbreak of losing his six week old son, Freddie Currie.
One of the Christchurch team had just finished reading a book examining New Zealand’s social history through the study of its community cook books, and he suggested doing a cook book ourselves to raise money for the Canterbury Neonatal Unit.
The original expectations were to make 500 copies in-house using the office photocopier and hope to sell some to family and friends. But four months on it has ballooned into a huge 107-paged cook book and features recipes from our own PricewaterhouseCoopers people but also celebrities including – Rt Hon John Key, Rt Hon David Cameron, Sir Ian McKellen, Richie McCaw, Dan Carter, Sir Richard Hadlee, Irene Van Dyk, Margaret Mahy, Dame Malvina Major, Anika Moa, Peter Gordon and many more.
We are trying to make a difference in our community, can you help us? The cook book is now on sale and we are hoping to raise as much money as possible. The next step is to promote our cook book and we would really appreciate your help.
What we are most proud of is the fact all of the purchase price, $20, goes to the Canterbury Neonatal Unit. Yes you read correctly, it is only $20 and all of the purchase price goes to the Canterbury Neonatal unit!
The cook book is available at PricewaterhouseCoopers offices nationwide. We have also set up a web-page: www.pwc.com/nz/cookbook
