Spectrum Care wins silver in New Zealand’s toughest and most prestigious performance excellence awards
The New Zealand Business Excellence Foundation will present a silver award to disability support provider Spectrum Care at their annual gala luncheon on Friday 26 November.
The awards, which are administered by the Foundation, are the only awards in New Zealand which are fully aligned to the internationally respected US Baldrige criteria. Foundation CEO, Mike Watson, says “Being awarded silver puts the winner in very elite company. These awards are unique in that they are based on an international criteria and scoring system, and a rigorous 4 stage assessment process.
In receiving this award, Spectrum Care has become the only health and disability sector organisation in New Zealand and one of only 14 organisations nationally to receive a silver or gold award since the Business Excellence Awards commenced in 1993.
The award places Spectrum Care in a leadership position within the health and disability sector, and acknowledges the significant progress the organisation has made towards becoming truly world-class.
“We continue to aim high and improve ever further in our capacity to achieve our Vision of ‘People with disabilities living great lives’,” noted Chief Executive Chris Harris. “In fact, our next milestone will be to achieve a gold award, the world’s highest-possible quality award for business excellence.”
“In working towards this award, we’ve made enormous progress in terms of Outcomes, Active Support, training, family engagement and our collaborative approach to sector partnerships. It’s also become clear that the lives of the people we serve have changed for the better as we work towards greater community inclusion and genuine person-centredness. This award is a truly significant result for the people we support, their families, our funders and the disability sector as a whole.”
Presented alongside the Business Excellence Awards will be the distinct second tier of awards, the NZ Business Achievement Awards. These are an abridged but still tough version of the Business Excellence Awards. Recognised in this category is Thames-Coromandel District Council.
The Council’s Business Process Analyst, Peter Fuller, says "With this award TCDC has now reached another milestone in our journey toward Business Excellence. The Baldrige experience has improved our processes and the way we look at our business overall. Our next goal is align our organisation more closely with the Baldrige principles and use what we're learning to improve our service to our customers."
The 2010 New Zealand Business Excellence Awards Gala Luncheon takes place at the National Maritime Museum in Auckland, 11.45am – 3.30pm on Friday 26 November 2010.
