New 2degrees Pay MonthlyTM plans embrace the smartphone revolution

2degrees is set to bring mobile internet to more New Zealanders with the announcement of five new, competitively priced Pay Monthly plans that it says will make going online via your mobile more affordable than ever. 2degrees says the changes to their Pay Monthly plans means they now have options to suit every type of wallet and deliver better any-network value for mobile customers compared to any-network monthly plans offered by Telecom XT and Vodafone.

Available with open terms (month-to-month contract) or with a 12- or 24-month commitment, the new range of Pay Monthly plans include bundled minutes and text to call any mobile or landline in New Zealand, a 3G data allotment, and Carryover MinutesTM, where any unused calling time accrues for up to one year. The offers are coming out, coincidentally, as a new report this week from the Commerce Commission shows the need for lower mobile prices is still sorely needed in New Zealand.

In benchmarking New Zealand prices for fixed line and mobile telecommunications services against international prices, the report showed that Kiwis continue to pay more than many other members of the OECD. In comparison to Australia, for example, New Zealand consumers pay significantly more for mobile voice and SMS plans for medium and high usage.

According to Malcolm Phillipps, head of Product Marketing at 2degrees, never before has there been this sort of value in a contract or pay monthly product. “Our new plans are part of our promise to keep New Zealanders connected to who ever, when ever they want to, for less. We’ve delivered more value to prepay users, now we’re doing the same for smartphone and contract customers. There is nothing comparable in the market today.”

If customers join one of the new Pay Monthly plans before 31 December they’ll also receive 2degrees’ Bonus100 offer, which gives them an extra 100 minutes every month for 12months to call any landline or mobile phone in New Zealand.
