AJ Hackett Bungy scoops top local business award
Adventure pioneers AJ Hackett Bungy leapt in to take the crown for the Large Business category at the Westpac Queenstown Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards on Saturday night (November 13).
Renowned as Queenstown’s original bungy operator, the company scooped the business excellence award for its outstanding contribution to the local and national tourism industry, its wide range of adventure options and motivational staff incentive schemes.
To enter the Large Business category companies had to employ more than fifty people and show excellent performance in areas such as management strategy, business improvement and achieving success.
Bungy New Zealand CEO Michelle Trapski and a large contingent of management and crew were at the black tie Awards Gala Dinner to pick up their ‘gong’.
“This award is hugely significant to our whole team and we’re excited to have won,” she said. “It’s about the remarkable energy and value we as a company place on leadership, teamwork, customer service and product development.”
AJ Hackett Bungy began in 1988 with two adventure pioneers, AJ Hackett and Henry van Asch, who opened their first jump at the Kawarau Bridge . Today the company is an iconic brand that delivers a wide range of jump experiences, merchandising, photo and video memorabilia to dozens of adrenaline junkies every day.”
Judges on the Business Excellence Awards panel included business consultants Jan Hunt and Alastair Nicholson, Michael Sutherland from Westpac, Dr John Guthrie from the Department of Marketing at Otago University , and CEO of the Southern Institute of Technology Penny Simmonds.
AJ Hackett Bungy is well-recognised for its dynamic working environment and takes pride in supporting crew with its reward programme, social club and a crew welfare team.
The company last week celebrated the 22nd birthday of its Kawarau Bridge Bungy and the second birthday of the Nevis Arc.
AJ Hackett Bungy is home to Kawarau Bridge , the world’s first bungy, Nevis Arc, the world’s highest swing, and the Nevis Bungy, Australasia ’s highest bungy, as well as The Ledge Bungy and Swing.
