Hobbit Outcome is a Huge Relief

Hobbit Outcome is a Huge Relief

Retaining The Hobbit in New Zealand is a fantastic outcome which will have long term benefits for the country according to the Employers’ Chamber of Commerce Central.

“It is a huge relief that the Hobbit will stay in New Zealand.  I would like to congratulate all involved,” said Chamber President Jo Bransgrove.

“It is unfortunate that it became necessary for the government to resort to increased tax breaks to secure the production but over all we think it was a deal that needed to be done.

“Getting the commitment for New Zealand to be promoted as a tourist destination on the Hobbit DVDs is a nice touch which will be worth millions in itself.

“The filming of The Hobbit will create thousands of jobs and inject millions of dollars into the local economy.  It also has positive spinoffs from the increased exposure it provides New Zealand – not just for tourism but international business generally.

“It would have been disastrous if it had been taken away especially at a crucial point in the industry’s development.

“The economic momentum generated from the success of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy would have been lost and the opportunity to keep New Zealand on the map gone.

“The film industry is crucial to both the Wellington and New Zealand economies and this is a fantastic outcome,” Ms Bransgrove concluded.
