Dairy Winners Get Involved in Awards

Dairy Winners Get Involved in Awards

The 2010 New Zealand Farm Manager of the Year, Carwyn Monteith, plans to make the most of the business and personal development opportunities that have come his way.

The Central Hawkes Bay dairy farmer was announced as the winner at the New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards in Rotorua earlier this year.

Despite still being on a high following his success, Carwyn – now farming in partnership with his wife Michelle – has already turned his attention to the 2011 awards by volunteering on the local Hawkes Bay Wairarapa regional competition committee.

“Being involved in the competition has proved to be a once-in-a-life-time experience for Michelle and me. We are thrilled by our achievements to date and really learnt a lot about each other in the process of entering and participating in the awards.

“We also hope to make the most of the personal development and business opportunities that have come our way as a result of our success.”

“We look forward to spending more time with the positive people that this event attracts,” the Monteiths say.

The couple are strong advocates of the awards and recommend people get involved.

“There are so many benefits from entering the awards, but a key one for us has been networking with other entrants and being introduced to some of the most influential people in New Zealand’s dairy industry.”

The Awards are sponsored by Westpac, DairyNZ, Ecolab, Federated Farmers, Fonterra, Honda Motorcycles NZ, LIC, Meridian Energy, Ravensdown and RD1, along with industry partner Agriculture ITO.

There are three contests under the umbrella of the New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards – the New Zealand Sharemilker/Equity Farmer of the Year, New Zealand Farm Manager of the Year and New Zealand Dairy Trainee of the Year.

Entries in the 2011 awards open on 1 November. People first enter one of 12 regional competitions held around the country, with the three winners from each region progressing to the national finals. The 2011 finals will be held in Queenstown.

All entries need to be completed online at www.dairyindustryawards.co.nz, where further information on the awards can also be found.
