First passenger on board to help Black Cat Cruises celebrate 25 years
Media release 19 october 2010
Banks Peninsula tourism operator Black Cat
Cruises will have a passenger from its first cruise when the
company celebrates 25 years in business tomorrow on Akaroa
Harbour.
Brian Woods from Akaroa will join passengers who paid 1985 prices and special VIP guests on the special anniversary cruise.
“We tried quite hard to find passengers who did that first cruise on Akaroa Harbour on the company’s first vessel, the Charmaine, in October 1985,” Black Cat Cruises Managing Director Paul Bingham said.
“We had four customers on our first cruise on October the 20th 1985, and 14 in our first week. We now average over 2000 a week across Lyttelton and Akaroa, and we are looking forward to celebrating 25 years in business with Brian, who will get free cruises for the rest of his life, and our guests and passengers tomorrow.”
All the proceeds from the cruise are going to help rebuild the War Memorial in Akaroa damaged in last month’s earthquake.
“We will be celebrating with free champagne and food on board and will be giving away 25th birthday T shirts, caps and badges.”
